Crisis Relief
Some of our directors and other team members were involved in relief efforts after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia and after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The Aceh event claimed 180,000 lives in Aceh alone and 210,000 worldwide. The suffering we witnessed created in us a desire to develop means to respond to like crises as they occur. We at One World believe that having a local partner ready to work with is essential and we will work to develop more of these relationships. We are told repeatedly that the medicine, food, etc. is great, but that the team's greatest gift is the gift of "hope", We were able to provide relief to hundreds of people during the 2016 Earthquake that left so many homeless in Ecuador. The Covid damage in Guayaquil was unbelievable, claiming many thousands of lives, including 110 medical doctors in 2020. We were able to again respond with necessities to some very needy people in Ecuador and in Myanmar into 2021 as the Covid virus surges.
